Are Private Lessons Right for You?

Types of private lessons can vary based on what you are looking to work on. You can take anything from ballet technique, pointe, or variations lessons, to conditioning, jazz, or contemporary lessons to help you improve.  But why would you take a private lesson when you can just take the class with your friends? Here are some of the most important benefits to taking private lessons:

Undivided attention

Not only will the teacher have their undivided attention on you, you will have your undivided attention on them, as well.  In a solo lesson environment, you have the advantage of not being distracted by anything or anyone else in the studio. No friends making goofy faces, no one trying to talk to you while you should be focusing, just you and your coach working together!

Opportunity to let the teacher see your dedication

It goes without saying that if you are taking private lessons, you are dedicated to your art and improving yourself in a serious way. Choosing to take private lessons reaffirms your commitment and dedication through hard work and discipline.

Goal Setting

A big benefit to private coaching is being able to work with your coach to identify specific goals and come up with a plan together on how to reach them. You can talk through what you envision for yourself, long-term or short-term, and work with a professional on how to achieve that goal. For example, if your goal for the next couple years is to be ready for pointe work, you and your teacher can put a plan in place to help you on your path.
